The La'al Bothy Bothy is a hidden Gem nestled into the small coastal village of Scarista on the stunningly beautiful Isle of Harris. 

Only a stones throw away from a wide expansive beach and estuary system on the south west coast of the island its the perfect place to relax or find outdoor adventure.

ABOUT

The La'al Bothy is a one bedroomed cottage next to our own home here in Scarista. It was designed and hand built by ourselves  Ellen & Alan using traditional drystone walling methods and is enhanced by a living biodiversity turf roof.  Designed to recreate the look of traditional island home called a "Black House"

Once inside you will find all the modern comforts of 21st century living.  

The small village of Scarista sits on the south west coast of the Isle of Harris forming part of the island chain known as the Outer Hebrides or Western isles.  The Isle of Harris lays 30 miles west of mainland Scotland and although to some it may feel remote, Harris is home to over 2000 local people and has a deep ancient history and local culture all of its own.  

ACCOMMATION

Compact Eco friendly accommodation that's perfect for couples, but can accommodate a young family of up to six.

The bedroom has a king size four poster bed with its canopy comprising of two single beds for young children and an ingenious sofa that easily converts into single bunks.

Open plan seating, dining and kitchen area.

Bath and shower room

The Bothy is warm and cosy thanks to underfloor heating, super insulated walls and living turf roof.  A multi fuel stove can also be lit for extra warmth and a warm glowing feeling!

SEE & DO

There is so much to see and do locally in Scarista if you enjoy exploring the great outdoors.

Relax and explore the 2.5 mile wide expanse of Scarista beach, dunes and estuary system made up from crushed shell sand, Marram grasses and flower covered Machair grasslands.

Sit a while watching the wildlife. 

look up and See Golden & Sea eagles overhead. 

Spot Seals, porpoise & basking sharks in the clear blue waters.

If you like to play Golf, Scarista also has a challenging 9 hole links golf course set within the most dramatic scenery and only half a mile from the Bothy to the club house and first Tee.

Climb to the top of Ceapabhal at 360M to view the whole of the west side of Harris and its stunning white sandy beaches with views out to the Archipelago of St Kilda, a Unesco world heritage site laying 55 miles offshore.
